Toad pendants redux

I first designed these TOAD pendants to promote our friend's art car while finishing college in 2010.  Back then, the laser cutter I had access to was not great.  Out of the hundreds of pendants I cut, only a few were cut all the way through.  The rest had to be hand-cut, sanded, and some just tossed because they couldn't be fixed up.

So I was INCREDIBLY excited to get on the lasers at TechShop and cut out a new batch in just two laser sessions.  All of the pendants cut perfectly (except the first two, before the lens was cleaned) and they look great.  I just put these in the mail to our friends back on the East Coast, who are still bringing the TOAD art car to events like the NYC Pride Parade, Dance Parade, Figment NYC and the Mermaid Parade.  Next Summer, I hope to be back in NYC dancing on the TOAD art car wearing these pendants :)

Rabbit Hole Pendants 2/2018

I can't believe that I've been making pendants for Damon's Nomadic Rabbit Hole parties for over a year! This February he is hosting a love themed event just after Valentine's Day, and I will actually be hand-delivering 50 pendants to the party in NYC.  This time Damon requested a rabbit illustration that was dark and sinister, and I was thrilled to come up with this original illustration.

NYC Skyline Lightbox with animated LEDs

TechShop hired me to write a curriculum for their summer camp and because I'm infatuated with light boxes, I was thrilled to see that was one of the topics they were requesting.  NYC is my home town and even though I love living in California, I do miss the bright lights of the greatest city on earth.  Also, a skyline is an easily customizable pattern for students to replicate.  After showing this box to my summer camp, one of the students wasted no time in creating a similar box for San Francisco.  The box contains 6 programmable LED's and an Arduino running a basic LED program.

Weekend laser work for The Hangry Bishop

Some cool things I'm making for my camp on the lasers today. (They'll become painted plaques and an led sign) We'll stick to small things at the meetup, but I can show you how to to make cool elements for more intricate projects like this too :)

Box Mania! Laser Cut Boxes in Wood and Acrylic

One of my favorite things about the Laser Cutter is the ability to cut and assemble ANY BOX or container on-the-fly.  

I’ve started using Post-It notes in my planner instead of crossing things out when they get canceled.  I like the ability to move things around but still have a written document rather than a web app.  After struggling to use a pencil case to hold my Post-It’s, I made this small box out of scrap acrylic.  It fits my two sizes of Post-It’s perfectly.

Since teaching the MakerBot 3D printer at TechShop, I've realized a need to to store 3d-printed thingamajigs to show my class.  I whipped up this box during a one hour reservation on the Universal Lasers, using the box generator at MakerCase.com.  I also etched my name and the MakerBot logo onto the box surface.  I love how the project came out.

Burner Happy Hour - Laser Etched Wood Block

I designed the logo and poster for a monthly new event hosted at TechShop - Burner Happy Hour.  This sign is made from 1/8" sanded plywood and etched on a Universal Laser System.
